The qasr Abbas Basha is the ruin of a castle erected on the gebel Abbas Pasha which culminates at 2,283 meters above sea level.

In a notebook, I wrote about its surprising story: "Abbas Pasha, grandson of the great reformer Mehemet Ali of Egypt, ordered the construction of this palace, on the plans of a real fortress, for reasons mainly Won by tuberculosis, he thought that a life at altitude would be beneficial for his state of health.
