An information board outlines the geological and historical significance of De Paanders. It is one of the four districts of Meulebeke that once grew into an independent parish (1956-1994). Directly opposite this board, built onto the school, is the now deconsecrated church.
The district is situated on a ridge, the height of which drops slightly from 35 m in this area to approximately 23 m near Lotenhulle. Scientifically and geologically, this formation is called 'the terrace of Meulebeke', a landscape once formed by the primeval Leie, which meandered along here to find its way to the sea a number of ice ages ago. The area offers magnificent views over the Mandel-Leie and the Scheldt valley. From here, you can easily see the Kluisberg, 25 km away, or the windmills of the Evolis business park near the E17 in Kortrijk. A 7.5 km walking path has been marked out.
