Ice Box Canyon

Ice box Canyon is one of the narrowest, shadiest canyons in Red Rock Canyon; it can be a welcome reprieve from the heat in the summer months! After walking through the open desert, at the mouth of the canyon you will drop down into the wash and weave your way up, over, and around stands of trees, boulders, and pools of water. In the spring and summer you can see tadpoles and frogs in the water, so please refrain from swimming to protect them and other animals that rely on the pools to survive in the harsh desert. The canyon walls rise dramatically above you as make your way to the waterfall at the back of the narrow canyon. The trail can be a little hard to follow but it is difficult to get truly lost once in the canyon proper because you are confined by the canyon walls. Generally speaking when heading up the canyon (toward the waterfall) stick to the left hand side to best skirt around obstacles. Relatedly, please be careful exploring this area in the rain and during the summer months; be aware of any flash flood warnings in effect!
