    Just after the independence of Belgium, an observation and training camp was built in the landscape you see here. Strategically a good choice because this spur of the Kempen plateau was ideal for defending the newly independent country against the Netherlands. In August 1831, the Belgian troops from here also successfully intervened in the battle of Houthalen. But in 1835 the camp moved again for practical reasons and the camp of Leopoldsburg saw the light of day. Two mounds remained of this camp that you can see. And in 2005, a network of filled postholes was found by Nature and Forest during nature works. You can see from the photo on the information board that the soldiers' quarters were not much: tents and, at best, sod huts. A piece of military history on the moor of the Teut, with a place in the ten-day campaign of August 1831.
