The Wippinger Mill is a so-called gallery-style Dutch mill and a drive-through mill. The upper mill house is mounted on a rotating mill tower that can be adjusted to suit the wind. The mill was in operation for a long time and played an important role in regional agriculture. However, with increasing mechanization and the decline of traditional mill operations, it lost its original function. In the 1970s, the mill was renovated and has since been a historical landmark and a popular tourist destination.

On the way between Emstal and Hümling you come through Wippingen. A small village, with this beautiful and fully restored mill and outbuildings. Since the last restoration in 2011, fully functional, it makes a really good impression and invites you to linger.
In the years 1860 to 1862, 38 farmers in the region pushed ahead with the construction of the Dutch-style windmill. In the years that followed, the mill was initially leased, but in 1913 it was bought by Heinrich Schulte for 18,000 Reichsmarks. In 1924 lightning struck the mill axis and 3 years later the advent of electricity in Wippingen pushed the windmill out of its task, which led to its final demise in 1937. At the end of the 1970s, the municipality acquired the mill and the rights of use were transferred to the Aschendorf-Hümmling local history association.
