    This still well-preserved bunker was the infantry plant before the First World War. It was to be used for test exercises for mortar bombardment. However, the so-called small Fort Markendorf has now largely been filled up and only a few corridors and rooms are accessible. If you walk along the bunker, you can guess the dimensions of 35 meters x 12 meters. Since this is the small fort, there is still a large fort in the military training area, which is difficult to find. Various bat species such as the pug bat have found new quarters in the bunkers. From time to time the NABU conducts exploration trips to the small fort in which you can participate.

    The site was used for military exercises before the First World War and was further expanded in the following decades.

    Today there is a wind farm in a smaller area, the rest of Heidehof-Golmberg is a nature reserve. Parts of the site may be entered at your own risk, some not. There is still a lot of old ammunition lying around.
