This church is located near an old sanctuary dedicated to Saint-Martin, probably built around the beginning of the 12th century, and whose chronicles tell us that it was given to the priory of Mortagne by the bishop of Saintes Adhémar Carbonel in 1174. .
Having become dilapidated, the church was decommissioned during the 17th century and its destruction ordered in 1707.

Between 1857 and 1859, a restoration campaign was led by the architect of the district of Saintes Victor Fontorbe, who modified the structure of the building somewhat.

The church, located near the port, is regularly flooded. In the same way, it had recently to suffer from the violence of the storm of 1999.

This neo-Romanesque building forms a single vessel with two bays, ending in a semi-circular apse. Two apsidioles are added to the nave, one of which, dating from 1721, houses the seigniorial chapel of the barons of Uzet.
