At the top, the river is calm and wide and can be waded through without any problems under normal conditions. Light slippers are useful here, as is a towel to dry and warm your feet.
My tip, don't go too far from the waterfall. At the beginning, you can see the stones and the water is less deep.

We were here at the end of September, and the water easily reached our knees, and the current was strong.
We went through barefoot, but it was already borderline dangerous.
By the end, we couldn't feel our toes anymore, and we almost slipped several times. We went for a swim. Thankfully, the sun was shining and we had towels with us.
It's beautiful up there, though.
Recommendation: Bring Crocs or similar for better footing, and pack a towel.
