The little house was the summer home of Käthe Reichel (1926-2012), a well-known actress at the Berliner Ensemble and the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. Later she also worked in film and television. For a long time she was the lover of Bertolt Brecht, who brought her to the Berliner Ensemble in October 1950. Her real name was Waltraut Reichelt, only Brecht called her Käthe. Bertolt Brecht gave her the summer house and made it world-famous in a poem in his "Buckow Elegies": The little house under trees by the lake/ Smoke is rising from the roof/ Was it missing/ How desolate then would be/ House, trees and lake. Käthe Reichel let the smoke rise in the "little house" when the air was clear for the lover's visit 😊.
