The church of Sant'Anastasia is a splendid example of Italian Gothic. It was built starting in 1290 with the contribution of the family that governed the city, the Scaligeri, and other Veronese families. Before the current building there were two churches dedicated here, one to Sant'Anastasia and the other to San Remigio.

In 1290 the Dominicans called to guard them decided to build in their place a single church dedicated to San Pietro da Verona also known as San Pietro Martire, but the people continued to call it Sant'Anastasia. Next to the church the Dominican monks had a large convent.
The construction work of the sacred building continued throughout the 1300s and 1400s and finally in 1500 the last phase of work for its completion took place. The facade is the only element never completed.

Sant'Anastasia is the largest church in Verona. The basilica develops into three large naves supported by 12 imposing columns of red Verona marble. 5 chapels open onto the transept. On the left side is the ancient oratory of the convent, Cappella Giusti.
The church, very rich in works of art, also houses the famous fresco by Pisanello of San Giorgio and the Princess, which has returned to its original location above the Pellegrini Chapel.
Outside, the unfinished facade with the splendid Gothic portal and the apse area, located on the bank of the Adige river. Inside: the altars with chapels with works by Pietro da Porlezza, Cattaneo, Michele da Firenze, Liberale da Verona, Girolamo Dai Libri, Giolfino, Brusasorzi, Altichiero, and Pisanello. At the entrance the singular hunchbacks holding the stoup.
