City Hall of Chur
Things are wrong with Chur's politics: That's what anyone who takes a closer look at the town hall might think. Because of the irregular floor plan and the sloping roof ridge, the building appears to be out of joint. But this is not due to politics, but rather to the history of the house. After the city fire of 1464, the building was rebuilt and then expanded and redesigned several times. The Hospital of the Holy Spirit was also housed here until 1554. The interior of the building also reflects the varied history of the town hall with its cultural assets from different times.

The town hall was first mentioned in documents in the second half of the 14th century, but was soon converted into a hospital. A new town hall with an attached department store was built right next to it. The hospital, town hall and department store were destroyed in the fire of 1464 and then rebuilt. The year 1525 can be read above an entrance door on Reichsgasse, but the council chamber was completed in 1494. The official measurement for the Chur foot (30 cm) is embedded in the wall next to the door. The hospital was closed around 1550. Its premises were added to the town hall. Shortly afterwards, the large roof with the artistic roof truss and roof turret was built. Even today, part of the city administration is still located in this building, including the city archives.
