The Helenenruh (550 m above sea level) is located on the Wiedaer Hüttenweg between Wieda and Zorge. At Hüttenweg, horse-drawn carriages were used to transport red iron bricks, which had been mined in the Wiedaer and Zorger mining districts, to the blast furnaces in the valley. In 1895 the last blast furnace of the "Zorger Hütte" went out, because in the late 19th century the smelting with charcoal proved to be no longer competitive. You can reach the Helenenruh from the Wiedaer Kurpark through the Kastental (signposted as Hüttenweg). From the refuge the Harzer Baudensteig leads to the horse HWN 58 to Zorge.
