The Bakainiai mound complex is a castle hill with two forts and protective ramparts, in the bend of the Liaudė river, a tributary of the Nevėžis river. The mound, dating from the beginning of the 2nd millennium - the 15th century, commemorates the birth of the Lithuanian state - it is assumed that the center of Upytė land was here. Some researchers believe that the castle of Eignitas, burned by the Crusaders in 1372, was here, others tend to identify the mound with Sosias mentioned in historical sources. The inhabitants of the mound who moved to Annapilin were buried nearby, in the cemetery behind the stream.
