      Slavic castle and fortified outer bailey settlement
      Thanks to its good state of preservation, the fortified structure, which is still impressive today, consists of the small ring-walled castle typical of Lusatia in the southwest and a semicircular area surrounded by a rampart in the northeast. There was a settlement there that directly belonged to the castle. Such villages, referred to by archaeologists as outer bailey settlements, are characteristic of Lower Lusatia. Only very rarely were they - like the Luckau-Freesdorfer Borchelt - fortified by a rampart and separated from the surrounding area.

        This used to be an old scandinavian castle. The only thing that is left of the castle is the foundational mound upon which the castle was once built. It's a nice, quiet place that doesn't get many visitors. There is a picnic table and informational placards at the front and there is a wildflower protection area inside.
