The Bollewerckpoorte or Dobbele Poort, popularly known as the Keldermanspoort, is the western entrance to the city. It is located in the 3.5 km long city wall and was both land and water gate. During the invasion of the people of Ghent in 1491, the gate was destroyed and it was reinforced again. However, during the Eighty Years' War, the gate had to be rebuilt. In 1618 the ruin was buried under the earth from the new Brederode stronghold and it became invisible. Mr. Keldermans (?) did research and discovered the buried gate. From 1959, excavations and restorations took place under the direction of P.J. Fire. In 1999, the Keldermanspoort was restored to its current state.

Since 2012, the Keldermanspoort has been reconnected to the city center of Hulst via the Nieuwe Bierkaai project through the reconstruction of the old inner harbour. On top of the Brederodebolwerk there is a see-through panel that shows what the gate must have looked like in earlier times.

The Keldermanspoort or Bollewerckpoort was both a land and a water gate. The gate was largely destroyed and covered with earth during the 80 Years' War (1568-1648). The remains were discovered in 1952 and the excavation started.
