      The Saale is the largest and most important river in Thuringia and the lifeline of many smaller and larger, historically valuable city pearls, which line up along the riverbank.
      As a classic water footpath leads the Saale through Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt to the mouth in the Elbe.
