The Strombad Kritzendorf on the Danube, about 12 km north of Vienna, opened in 1903 as one of Austria's first open-air swimming pools and was a popular destination for Viennese residents, especially during the interwar period. At that time, it attracted up to 12,000 visitors on weekends, and the beach pavilion served as a cultural center, hosting performances by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, among others. Today, the area is no longer a traditional swimming pool, but a publicly accessible recreation area with sunbathing lawns on the banks of the Danube and so-called "living cabins" rented out by the town of Klosterneuburg. Since 2014, the "Krido Open" summer festival has been held here, during which residents open their homes and gardens for cultural and culinary events to support the preservation of the historic buildings. Despite frequent floods, the Strombad remains a popular place for relaxation, culture, and socializing.
