House where Voltaire lived in the period 1753 - 1754
Historical interpretation:
In October 1753, Voltaire arrived in Colmar to work on his Annales de l'Empire together with the French advisors of the Conseil Souverain and their rich libraries. He also wanted to follow the typographical adaptations of his work on the presses of JF Schoepflin. He found shelter with Madame Gall, the wife of the mayor, in a 15th-century noble house, rebuilt in 1609.

Voltaire's stay, which lasted only thirteen months, was particularly eventful because of his disputes with the very influential Jesuit brothers in the city and who opposed the works of the philosopher of the Enlightenment. Despite much misplaced criticism of Colmar, which he described as "a half-French, half-German and completely Iroquois city", it appears that he nevertheless enjoyed his stay in Colmar.

The Wildungshof House is a historic monument in Colmar, in the French department of Haut-Rhin.

In the 14th century, this building belonged to the von Wittenheim family. In 1448, the farm returned to Beat Henslin.

The wooden gallery from 1598 was likely built by Samuel, son of Beat Henslin.

Voltaire stayed in this residence for thirteen months (1753 and 1754) to complete his Imperial Annals after his dismissal from the court of Frederick II.

The Court Gallery has been a listed historic monument since January 12, 1989.
