The Finland-Russia border runs roughly in a north-south direction between the Republic of Finland and the Russian Federation. It is an approximately 1,340 km long Schengen external border and runs mainly through uninhabited taiga and sparsely populated rural areas without following any particular natural feature or river. In Finland it is called the “eastern border”.

Important NOTE:
Border crossings are controlled and patrolled by the Finnish Border Guard and the Border Guard Service of Russia, and there are border zones on both sides (0.1 to 3 km wide on the Finnish side and at least 7.5 km wide on the Russian side).
