Alt: 140m It is the second waterfall one encounters when walking upstream from the Skógafoss waterfall. The waterfall is located about 600 meters above Skógafoss (or about 400 meters beyond Hestavaðsfoss).
The river makes a nearly 90-degree bend to the west at Fosstorfufoss, dropping 34 feet (about 10 meters) over a vaguely horseshoe-shaped ridge. Although most of the water first slides over a cascade and spreads over a ledge, it then turns around and falls over the cliff away from the hiking trail. This creates a unique view where the water seems to come directly towards the viewer before changing direction.

Fosstorfufoss is the second waterfall encountered as one hikes upstream and is found about 600 meters above Skógafoss (or about 400 meters past Hestavaðsfoss). Here the river makes a nearly 90-degree bend to the west, and in doing so falls 34 feet over a vaguely horseshoe-shaped ledge. The river actually starts out by running directly toward the view along the trail, with a portion plunging directly over the fall immediately. The majority of the water however sheets down a cascade and spreads out across a ledge, then reverses direction and falls over the cliff facing away from the trail. It may be possible to find a more revealing vista along the rim of the canyon downstream, but there likely will not be an entirely clear view of this waterfall accessible without fording the river.

Immediately upstream of the falls are some interesting rock spire formations, with large boulders littering the river below that appear to have cleaved off and fallen into the canyon from the adjacent cliffs.
