The Cathedral of Santa María de Regla dominates León from its historic center and is one of the most important buildings of Spanish Gothic. Built in the 13th century on top of some Roman baths, its stained glass windows, rose windows and towers represent its importance as a basilica for the capital of the medieval kingdom. Its square is a crossing point on the Camino de Santiago and the transit of pilgrims gives it an inspiring traveler atmosphere.
