According to legend, the border should be drawn after quarrels between Glarnern and Urnern where two runners met after the first cock crowing. The Glarner fattened their faucet, the Urner left theirs hungry. The Urner Hahn crowed very early and gave his runner a big lead, which allowed him to win the Urner Boden and more. Out of pity the Urner still allowed the Glarner to regain the frontier as far as he could carry him. The Glarner carried him back a fair bit until he collapsed dead.

Urnerboden is the largest cow pasture and the most beautiful pasture in Switzerland
If you look at the map of Uri, you will notice that in many places the cantonal borders do not follow the watershed, but extend far into the Ennetbirg region.
In 1315, the border between Glarus and Uri was precisely marked out. This put an end to the disputes, and from then on the Ennet-Märch belonged undisputedly to the people of Uri.
Politically, Urnerboden belongs to Spiringen. Urnerboden has only been inhabited all year round since October 1877 following a Federal Council decision.
