Heather honey, light and clear in its properties, is obtained as nectar produced by the heather. When the heather blooms in August, millions of bees fly out to collect this coveted substance from the heather flowers. They transport the precious commodity to the beehive, where the flower nectar is converted into honey.

Traditionally, honey in the Lüneburg Heath is obtained in so-called Stülpern. These are beehives that are woven from willow and sealed with cow dung.
