Here you will find the Bengelbeemd, an initiative of the Regionaal Landschap Haspengouw & Voeren. This is not a birth forest but an alternative to it. The municipality of Alken was planning to create a birth forest but the organization advised against it. You can read the reasons via the link below. Every year in the Bengelbeemd "a picnic is organized, after the hay has been harvested, where each newborn gets a picnic blanket of one square meter". The bench with the sunflowers is in memory of a young and much-loved resident of Alken who passed away much too early in the summer of 2022. RIP, Julie.
