It originates on the southwest edge of the village of Rannungen at about 326 m above sea level and after about 600 meters turns in the direction of its more or less constant left upper course, which is called the Leingraben or Leimgraben. This Leimgraben is almost 2.0 km long and begins in the municipality of Dittelbrunn, about 700 meters northeast of the center of Pfändhausen near the county road to Rannungen at about 364 m above sea level.
