Very few can still read the Latin inscription on the old memorial stone near Nechern in the valley floodplain between the Kotitzer and Löbauer waters. Therefore, many will not be aware that the history of the stone goes back to the 17th century: During the Northern War 1700-1721, the Swedish king Karl XII and his troops occupied Saxony and Upper Lusatia. In order not to have to experience atrocities like in the Thirty Years' War, a delegation of the Upper Lusatia estates and nobles went to meet the Swedes. The meeting took place on September 6, 1706 in Schönberg near Görlitz. One of the members of the Estates was the then owner of the Nechern estate, the nobleman Rudolph Ziegler von Klipphausen. He invited the king to his estate in Nechern. So it came on September 10, 1706 to these meetings at Nechern. 100 years later, the owner of the Erdmann manor had the so-called Schwedenstein erected to commemorate this meeting.
