Halde Rungenberg

The Halde Rungenberg is about 110 m above sea level. NN high [1] coal mine in Gelsenkirchen. It was created by mining in the coal mine Hugo. The Abraumhalde is one of the burning dumps, is mostly green again, partly wooded and invites you to take a walk.

The thick, rusty steel tubes, which are directed like sky-high telescopes towards the sky, form the light installation "Nachtzeichen" by Hermann EsRichter from Oberhausen and Klaus Noculak from Berlin, who won the competition in 1992 for the artistic design of the stockpile.

From them also comes the "rail plateau", a ground relief in the sink between the two headlight locations. With 5,500 meters of railroad tracks, an elliptical area of 33 by 41 meters was laid out close to each other.
