Beulbar was first mentioned in a document in 1240.[1] A small castle lay in the north-eastern part of the town in the so-called Hofgarten. It was a medieval mansion. Lords of Beulbar have been mentioned since 1328. Around 1500 there was a Marienkapelle of the Lords of Beulbar on this spot. The remains of the castle are the ruin hill and the moat. There is also a Norway maple on this spot.[2] The village was and is agricultural and today still cultural.

The noble place belonged to the Bürgel monastery and after its dissolution in the course of the Reformation in 1526 came to the Ernestine office of Bürgel.[3] Due to several divisions, this belonged to various Ernestine duchies. From 1815 the town was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach,[4] which in 1850 annexed it to the administrative district of Weimar II (administrative district of Apolda).[5] In 1920 Beulbar became part of the state of Thuringia.
