The Sophienhöhe, which was created from overburden of the Hambach opencast mine, is the highest artificial elevation in Germany. The height of the dome is 301.8 m above sea level. NN. The artificial pile is thus about 218 m. The difference in height to the lowest point in the neighboring open pit covers approx. 595 m.
