In a wooded area along the south bank there is a spring called "Teifirührdi" (high German "Teufel, stir dich"). The legend of "Teifirührdi" tells of a hunter who shot a poacher. To avoid punishment, he sank it into the waterhole. Since then, the water has been bubbling in this spring and when someone calls out "Teifirührdi", he lifts his finger out and circles around - according to tradition.

Great to see how the spring brings the sand to bubble.

        "Deifri ria di"

uellen are among the most beautiful, powerful and often mysterious natural places; just staying at the springs is often invigorating and refreshing. For the mind, because the spring water with its incessant murmuring and splashing creates an atmosphere of meditative concentration, for the body because the air above the moving water is enriched with negatively charged ions and thus has a vitalizing effect and improves both mental and physical performance. Above all, however, sources are true places for the soul, strengthen intuition and facilitate spiritual experiences. Anyone who lingers at a spring with open senses can understand why goddesses and nature spirits often appear at springs in ancient myths. A special form of springs are forest springs, which usually do not necessarily splash around as happily as a small rock spring on the mountain pasture, but rather spread the aura of a calm force and thus are a reflection of the tranquility of the forest surrounding them.

One such source is the “Deifedradi” on the south bank of the Seehamer See in the catchment area of the Upper Bavarian Mangfall Valley. It is an artificial small lake, dammed up in the 1920s to generate energy as a retention basin at the place of several small, "Easter lakes" called dead ice holes from the retreat area of the Ice Age Inn glacier. The highest peaks of the flooded area stand out today as islands on the lake, on the largest of these islands there was a medieval castle. The lake is mainly fed with power station water from the Leitzach, but in the south it also has some smaller source tributaries, of which the Deifedradi is the largest.
Only sometimes is the chirping of forest birds above the crystal green water of the remaining dead ice hole interrupted by the fine babbling of the small brook, which flows into the Seehamer See after around 70 meters. The spring itself is still, no sound comes up when the fresh water rises in one of several places in the water bed.
But you can see it. In three places fine white sand swirls again and again on which small clouds form, spreads out in concentric waves and finally sinks back down to the bottom. A fascinating spectacle under the dancing shadows of the high treetops, which are reflected on the surface of the water, which brings images of former times to life in the mind of the beholder, in which female seers were able to read the future out of eddies in springs.
According to one interpretation, a poacher who should not find rest under the lake - according to another, it is even the devil himself who shows himself here and pushes the water in such a way that here and there, always different, summer and winter Spin the sand top. What is certain is that the sand comes from an intermediate layer between harder rock slabs and is washed up from the spring - unfortunately it is not known whether the Deifedradi is a pre-Christian place of worship, as the diabolical place name suggests.
The best time to experience and feel this special place is shortly before and after sunset, but be sure to wear a headlamp for the way back on the Seerundweg to one of the many parking spaces around the Seehamer See (approach via A8, exit Weyarn) think.
Even if a cinematic recording cannot replace the experience, it certainly stirs up the desire to set out on the way to the small forest spring and its secrets.
