It is not known how the American nutria came to Nina - the first information about the nutria family on the Rybnik river appeared in the fall of 2016. In Poland, they have been bred as fur animals since 1926, the Rybnik population was most likely created by the escape of these animals from some private farm. Why is it American nutria? Because these rodents began their history in South America.
Nutrias grow up to 40–65 cm in length and their scaly tail reaches 30 to 75 cm in size. Quite large orange-colored incisors stick out of the mouth with long whiskers (whiskers). Nutrias swim and dive well. They also have good hearing and slightly weaker eyesight. These animals dig burrows in the overgrown shores of water. They live (in pairs) in the wild for about 6-12 years, although some sources say that even up to 24 years.
