The Cathedral, dedicated to the saints Nazarius and Celsus, stands on a site that was once a temple to the Romans, dedicated to Augustus and his wife Livia. In the 8th century, a Christian building is mentioned here, later a Romanesque church stood here, which was destroyed during the Albigensian Crusade during the massacre of Béziers on 22 July 1209 by a fire. The reconstruction started in the middle of the 13th century and since then partly includes an old cemetery due to the size of the building.
