        In 1931/32, the Schilling farmer Johann Werner built a wayside shrine to the Mother of God in times of great need. He prayed the rosary here every evening, and was soon joined by other men from Schillingen. Following the example of Klaus von der Flüe, the farmer built a simple hut in which he lived in the summer. After his death in October 1933, the local men continued to pray the rosary. The wayside shrine was replaced by a grotto. On Trinity Sunday 1936, a statue of the "Lady of Fatima" brought from Fatima, Portugal, was installed and consecrated in the grotto. After the war, the chapel in front of the grotto was built with donations mainly from the two daughters of Johann Werner, who emigrated to America in 19256. Whit Sunday 1951 the chapel was consecrated.
        The chapel and the grotto are located on the Schillinger Panoramaweg dream loop, near the Schillingen spit roast hall.
