In the south, the Sandauer Bridge connects the city island across the Havel with the other side of the city. The construction of the bridge began in 2007 after the approximately 100-year-old bridge could no longer cope with the demands of modern traffic. The bridge was built next to the old bridge, which was demolished after the new bridge became operational.
The bridge was officially opened on September 25, 2009. It is 125.3 m long, with a width between the railings of 13.50 m and a lane width of 7.50 m. Its height above the upper operating water level of the Havel is 4.50 m.
