The following fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm comes from the Main region. It was told to them by Marie Müller, known as "Old Marie", and has no literary basis. Old Marie, born in 1947 in Rauschenberg in Hesse, worked as a conductor (housekeeper) in the Wild family of pharmacists, whose daughters were also avid fairy tale collectors. Alongside Hansel and Gretel, "Brother and Sister" is one of the most famous sibling fairy tales. It describes a process of maturation and development.
