The Hamburg-Bergedorf Observatory is a research institute of the University of Hamburg.
This research center is well-known, especially among scientists from all over the world.
Fundamental astronomical and astrophysical research is conducted here. The City of Hamburg plans to have the observatory listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
At the Bergedorf Observatory, students and professors from the University of Hamburg conduct fundamental astronomical and astrophysical research.
Visitors can participate in events and demonstrations.
Visitors to the Bergedorf Observatory enter a complex of various buildings that house a variety of astronomical instruments and telescopes of various sizes, as well as a laboratory and an extensive library.
The Bergedorf Observatory is open to the public and offers guided tours and various events. Since 2011, the Café Raum & Zeit has served breakfast brunch, a cake buffet, and tea and coffee specialties in the idyllic park grounds.

The Hamburg Observatory was founded in 1833 near the port of Hamburg
and relocated to Bergedorf in 1912 to escape the poor observation conditions caused by smoke, light, and vibrations in the city center.
The main building of the "new" Hamburg Observatory here on the Gojenberg was built
between 1906 and 1909. Initially, the basement housed the clock chamber of the Time Service. The clocks were particularly protected there from temperature fluctuations and other external influences. The director's office and administration offices are still located on the ground floor.
The library takes up most of the building. It extends over two floors and several rooms. Its collection includes approximately 70,000 works dating from 1600 to the present day. The precision mechanics workshop was originally located here.
