The railway line was apparently closed a long time ago. It led from Czerwonka (Rothfliess) over 121 km through Masuria to Ełk (Lyck).

The line is single-track and not electrified, impassable between Czerwonka and Orzysz, between Orzysz and Ełk it can be used by passenger trains at eighty kilometers per hour and by freight trains at sixty.

It is intended to reopen the line for passenger services after modernization.
