The Salm (Walloon: Såm) is a river in the Ardennes that was originally called Glain. On topographical maps, that name is still used for the upper reaches, but from Vielsalm, formerly known as Salm, the river is now called Salm. The whole river Salm is often mentioned in tourist publications.

The Salm rises in Commanster at the former Prussian-Belgian border, which followed the watershed here, and flows into the Amblève at the town hall of Trois-Ponts. The source area is above 500 meters, the estuary at 260 meters above the sea.

In Beho, ponds have been formed on the Les Concessions domain by damming. From this place to the estuary, the Liège-Luxembourg railway and the N68 follow the valley of the Salm. In Cierreux there is a water mill and a little further the river Ronce flows into the Salm. West of Vielsalm, a small lake has been created by a concrete dam. At Rochelinval, the Salm receives the Ruisseau de Tigeonville and at Trois-Ponts de Baleur, called Ruisseau de Bodeux on topographical maps.

The blowing up of the bridges over Amblève and Salm at Trois-Ponts in World War II prevented the Kampfgruppe Peiper from following the road to Werbomont. The 1. Pfanzer Division was obliged to follow the valley of the Amblève downstream and the offensive was stopped at La Gleize.

Salm is also the name of a tributary of the Moselle, which rises in the Eifel near Gerolstein.
