The Rüpingsbach flows through Barop to Schönau, where it flows into the Emscher.
It is part of the Emscher system and was previously used for wastewater disposal. Before the Emscher system was rebuilt and renaturalized by the Emschergenossenschaft, the stream flowed in a channeled concrete bed.
As part of the renaturation, a riverside path was also created here at the level of the "An der Panne" nature reserve, which leads, among other things, along the former Rüpingsmühle and the former railway embankment of the Henriette mine to the Baroper train station. There are information signs along the path that draw attention to these early witnesses of industrialization in the south of Dortmund.
