    One of the most beautiful and oldest districts in Freiburg is Oberlinden. It is located at the Schwabentor and is recognizable through the fountain, which ends with a figure of Mary and the old linden tree. The area was largely spared in World War II and still has its ancient charm. The linden tree is around 300 years old and the oldest inn in Germany is also located in this small square. The Gasthof zum Roten Bären dates back to the 12th century and has a complete list of owners.
    In Oberlinden, the Salzstrasse meets the Herrenstrasse - once an important trade meeting point. In the Middle Ages, craftsmen, inns and various shops settled here. There are still numerous shops today and the square around the fountain is a popular meeting place for the people of Freiburg.
    Every year the traditional Oberlindenhock takes place here, which stretches from the Schwabentor all the way to Herrenstrasse.
