Already in 1846 Pascual Madoz in his Geographical Dictionary described it as Roman and the illustrious civil engineer Carlos Fernández Casado in his History of the Bridge in Spain of 1939 cataloged it as such for its "good looks, good construction and design". Unfortunately there are no historical references that allow us to guarantee that this is its origin. Although there is no exact dating of the origin of the bridge, it is reasonable to assume that its history is strongly linked to the fortification that has existed on the site of the castle since prehistoric times. The bridge and the castle enjoy a strategic and complementary position, the first located in a natural ford in the river and the second on a watchtower that dominates the ford and, at the same time, the countryside.
