Lago Korission

The Korrission Lagoon is one of the top highlights in Corfu. This nature reserve is the island's largest wetland and is of great importance for its bird diversity. The lagoon was created under Venetian rule.

In the nature reserve around Lake Korission, which covers a total of around 6,000 hectares, there is a dune landscape, some of which are higher than 15 meters, with the corresponding settlement, as well as a cedar forest. Other notable plants in the nature reserve include reed beds, tamarisks, white lilies and 14 different orchid species. The area is a magnet for various species of butterflies and birds, such as cormorants, great egrets, flamingos, wigeons and other species of ducks. As part of the Natura 2000 protection program, Lake Korission is the largest protected area on the island of Corfu.
