The Christ Church in Lahr is the largest private tomb far and wide.

The history of its origin begins in the will of the Lahr merchant Christian Wilhelm Jamm, which he wrote in 1874, one year before his death.

In it he bequeathed almost all of his possessions to the city of Lahr. However, he gives precise instructions on the use of the cash funds.

With the idea of a medieval donor, Jamm, who was not a known churchgoer during his lifetime, earmarked 250,000 Reichsmarks for the construction of a church "in honor of Christ" right next to his park, today's city park. It was in this church that Jamm wished to be buried. He even gave strict guidelines in his will for the construction and the long-term occupation of the pastorate.

Between 1877 and 1880 the Christ Church was built as Lahr's second evangelical church.

A dome was built in the style of the Italian Renaissance.
