The Fulda Orangery was built from 1721 onwards according to plans by the Mainz chief building director Maximilian von Welsch. It served as a venue for the prince abbots' summer festivals. In winter it was used as a storage place for the popular ornamental trees such as lemons and oranges. Today, the magnificent building with its baroque halls provides a festive setting for festive events. The Apollo Hall in the middle of the building is worth seeing; it is now the breakfast room and café of the adjoining Maritim Hotel. The ceiling fresco with the mirror vault shows the sun god Apollo with his sun chariot in the middle. The golden roof decoration of the orangery, the pineapple, is recognizable from afar as a symbol of exoticism.

The Orangery forms the northern end of the palace gardens. This stately building, once used by prince-abbots for summer festivals, was built in the 18th century. Directly in front of the Orangery stands the sculpture of Flora, created in 1728, and is considered one of the most beautiful sculptures in Germany. Today, numerous events take place in the baroque halls and the sun terrace.
