        "Arenfels Castle is located above Bad Hönningen in the midst of picturesque vineyards. Thanks to the 365 windows, 52 doors and 12 towers, it is also called "Castle of the Year".

        Arenfels Castle owes its current appearance to a prominent master builder: Ernst Friedrich Zwirner was a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Imperial Count Friedrich Ludolf von Westerholt-Gysenberg commissioned the Zwirner entrusted with the completion of the Cologne Cathedral with the modernization of the castle from 1849 to 1858. Extensive changes had already taken place around 300 years before the neo-Gothic conversion: Instead of the castle from the 13th century Arenfels, the construction of the three-wing Renaissance castle took place in the second half of the 16th century. Friedrich Ludolf would have liked to have retained the style of the complex in the 19th century, but master builder Zwirner prevailed with his new design language. During the fighting for the Remagen Bridge in World War II, the structure was severely damaged. Most of the war damage has now been removed. The beautiful interior of the castle has been restored, and the imposing cast iron staircase from the Sayner Hütte is particularly worth seeing.

        Arenfels Castle attracts with its location in the middle of the vineyards as a romantic venue for weddings, family celebrations and company events. The castle is home to 8 cozy hotel rooms and the "Schlosseria" restaurant with a vaulted cellar and a large terrace. Located directly on the Rheinsteig, it is also a popular destination for hikers."
