In 1865 the large Bierbaumsche garden property passed to the Löbbecke family of banks. In 1880/81 the architect Constantin Uhde (1836-1905) built the representative Neo-Renaissance villa in the Roman-Italian style for the banker Alfred Löbbecke. In 1882 the Bammelsburg pond was created to the south. When laying out the garden, which was already open to the public at the end of the 19th century, Uhde worked closely with the garden architect and promenade inspector Friedrich Kreiss (1842-1915).
Between 1933 and 1945 the Villa Löbbecke was used for National Socialist purposes (official apartments). After the war in 1944, the villa was threatened with complete demolition. In 1967/68 it was partially preserved and integrated into the new guest house of the Technical University of Braunschweig according to the design of Prof. Justus Herrenberger. Since 2011 use as an office building.
