I came there when there was a demonstration for women going on. It was peaceful, with a large police presence. What struck me was a memorial in honor of Kemla Ataturk, where the following was written after my attempt to translate: 'Gentlemen, you know well that the Republic of Turkey cannot be the home of sheikhs, dervishes, disciples, men. The truest and truest cult is the cult of civilization. 1925 (Ataturks B. N., p. 93) Was the demonstrator, the spectator, the law enforcement officer aware of these thoughts at that moment?
