Buchberg Castle is three kilometers south of Gars am Kamp on a low cliff on the right bank of the river. Construction phases from the 12th to the 20th century characterize the multi-part, high-staggered complex with ornamental gardens in front of it. Between 1140 and 1170 a Heinrich von Puechperg appears for the first time in documents as a ministerial officer of the Gars burgraves. He built a permanent house on the top of the rock surrounded by a protective curtain wall. His two sons, Hugo and Otto, appear in documents in connection with their participation in crusades to the Holy Land.
In 1965 the Bogner family acquired the Buchberg estate. In 1979 Dieter and Gertraud Bogner founded the Buchberg art space in the castle.
