Impressive architecture and at the side there is a small lounge to rest. The construction lasted from 1165 to 1275. The gothic cathedral Notre Dame is the largest church in Switzerland.

      Notre-Dame Cathedral, Lausanne
The cathedral was not consecrated until 1275 by Emperor Rudolf of Habsburg and Pope Gregory X.
Then Jean Cotereel, the third master builder, took over the building site and built the western part, which he equipped with a porch and two towers, one of which carries the bells. The other tower was not completed. The very original painted portal was added to the south façade around 1225-1235. The cathedral was not consecrated until 1275 by Emperor Rudolf of Habsburg and Pope Gregory X. In 1536, the cathedral was significantly altered during the Reformation, when a new space for worship was created in the nave. It was then restored several times in the 18th and 19th centuries, notably under the direction of the famous French architect Eugène-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc. The interior of the cathedral is characterized by an exceptional use of color. This decoration, which dates back to the original building, was covered up during the Reformation but was brought out again at the beginning of the 20th century: the paintings are still visible in the Chapel of Our Lady and on the statues of the painted portal, which is unique in Europe and whose complete restoration was completed in October 2007. The rose window is one of the masterpieces of European church art: its panes illustrate the medieval worldview in which God as creator was at the centre.

The Cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of Notre Dame is the successor church of the 6th century church, dedicated to Saint Thyrsus and later named Saint-Maire. The Carolingian building was replaced around 1000 by a Romanesque church. But only a few decades later they started again with a new building.

There are three stages of construction:

from about 1170 the ambulatory was built in the east
From around 1190 on, under the so-called Master of Lausanne, the choir was built, with a lantern tower, a transept and a large part of the nave
Around 1215, the architect Jean Cotereel began to finish the nave and to build the western end of the church

Between 1225 and 1235, the Portail peint, remarkable for its figureheads and polychromy, was added to the southern outer wall of the nave. Finally, in 1275, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame was consecrated in the presence of Pope Gregory X and King Rudolph of Habsburg.
