The church of St. Michael is a so-called people's church, a church that ordinary people went to.
Originally, there was an older Romanesque church on the site, which was first mentioned in documents in 1252.
This Romanesque church received a Gothic choir in 1352 and two bells in the 16th century that have been preserved to this day: the Michael and Sebastian bells.
In 1751, the church was redesigned according to plans by Johann Joseph Couven.
The result was a three-aisled pillar basilica - by the brothers Franz and Paul Klausener.
